An application can be made on this website or by completing a pre application form. With pre application, you are required to submit a copy of your latest school report. Anyone wishing to go on exchange with STS will be asked to take an informal interview with a STS area representative in your home or via skype before being accepted to the programme. Within two weeks of the interview, providing all necessary documents have been submittted, you will receive a notification letter advising preliminary acceptance or non-acceptance. Final aceptance will be notified upon completition of your full application and the receiving country's assessment of your file.
As an STS student, you must sign an agreement that indicates that you accept the rules that apply to STS exchange students. STS reserves the right to suspend student participation in the programme with immediate effect if the student violates local laws and regulations.
Prerequisites and age limit. To participate, you should be born within a certain age range, please contact STS for the age range of the country you are wanting to go to. Before you depart, you need to study full time and be achieving average to above grades in all subjects. You can choose to study for a year, semester, 3 months or 2 months.
Visa and health check. For each country, different visa rules apply to exchange students. STS issues visa documentation and informs students about the application process. It is the student's responsibility to apply for and pay for visas. A health check should be done before the trip. Individual schools may require additional health examinations and this is then paid by the student. STS reserves the right to discontinue the students programme if previous or current health status differs from that stated in the student's application. If serious health problems occur during the replacement period, STS is entitled to cancel the programme.
The programme fee is payable in 4 instalments. The first instalment of $900 will confirm your application on the programme. The further 3 instalments are to be paid as follows:
Instalment 2, 25%
Instalment 3, 40%
Instalment 4, final balance
The programme fee is due in full before departure.
If cancellation is received more than 60 days before departure 50% of the programme fees paid is forfeited. Within 60 days of departure the cancellation fee is 75% of amounts paid. If at any stage it is felt by STS that a suitable placing cannot be offered the full amount paid will be refunded.
All exchange students are required to have an insurance cover. STS offers a very comprehensive cover. If you prefer to purchase your own cover you will need to provide full details to STS for prior assessment and acceptance that the cover is suitable.
STS offers an optional insurance cover which protects students who need to cancel for reasons of illness, serious injury or death of an immediate family member. The cost of the insurance is $95, to be paid with the deposit/first instalment due of $900 in order to be valid.
STS reserves the right to increase programme prices, but we guarantee that once you have paid your $900 deposit there will be no nasty surprises. At the time of paying your $900 deposit you will secure the published programme prices, thus be protected from increase.
