When you apply to an exchange program and are accepted, you pay a registration fee – this is the case for all exchange program organizations and is confirmation that you want us to continue working with your application.
The registration fee is EUR 500 regardless of destination and is included in the total program price.
What your exchange year costs depends on the destination, length and add-on options. But under each destination, you can find our program fee for a classic high school program.
For programs beginning in the fall, the following payment schedule applies, in percent of total program fee:

Any discounts, scholarships and/or add-ons are reflected in the final invoice, which is paid by June 15.
Some costs are added in addition to the program fees for which you, the customer, are responsible. You will book and pay for your trip to your host country. Insurance, visa costs, health exam, literature, any currency surcharges, as well as costs for possible school uniforms, school lunch, school bus, club fees, optional trips during the year abroad, pocket money and personal expenses, and if a special diet is necessary are other costs that may be added and are not included in the fee. Fees for a late application for a year abroad may also entail additional costs. It is mandatory for all STS students to have valid insurance during their entire stay in the host country. We offer customized insurance that covers sickness, accidents, liability and luggage, and it is approved by government agencies in the country to which you are going.
If you would like a different insurance plan, it must be approved by an authority in the host country such as a government agency or school. Talk to us at STS and we will make sure to guide you the right way as regards insurance.
If you decide to cancel your exchange more than five months before departure, STS will retain the registration fee. After this we follow the Cancellation Terms which regulate how much of the program fees are refunded depending on how close to the departure date the cancellation is received. If you decide to add the Cancellation Protection, other terms will apply.
We offer two different types of cancellation protections as additional options when you book your exchange program with us:
Standard Cancellation Protection: Our most popular travel cancellation protection is now even better: It reimburses the paid program fees* in full in case of illness, accident or a death in the family, with proof by a medical certificate.
Price: EUR 350
Extended Cancellation Protection: The Extended Cancellation Protection reimburses the paid program fees* in full, regardless of the reason for cancellation, as long as you do not cancel later than 10 days before departure.
Price: EUR 1200 for our Classic program, EUR 2 000 for our Select program.
*except for the cost of the cancellation protection itself.
